Iran seeks compensation from Ukraine over ship strike

Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Tehran has demanded compensation from Ukraine following a phone call with his Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha.

Axar.az reports that Araghchi wrote on X that Iran does not seek escalation but made clear that any attack on its citizens or interests is unacceptable.

"Was assured by Ukrainian FM Andrii Sybiha that the attack on an Iranian ship was unintentional and Ukraine seeks no escalation," Araghchi wrote on X.

"Iran does not seek escalation either, but made clear any attack on our citizens or interests is unacceptable. There must be restitution for losses," Araghchi stated.

According to the report, Ukraine struck an Iranian cargo ship involved in transporting weapons between Russia and Iran in the Caspian Sea, killing one person and wounding two others.
