Pashinyan rejects debate over timing of Armenia referendum

Discussions about holding a referendum and its timing are inappropriate because the decision rests solely within Armenia's sovereign authority.

Axar.az reports, citing Armenian media, that Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan responded to a question about whether Russian President Vladimir Putin had raised the timing of a referendum during a telephone conversation.

"Discussion of deadlines for holding a referendum is entirely inappropriate. We ourselves make decisions concerning our sovereign rights. We should decide when to hold a referendum and when not to. I have already said under what conditions such a referendum could take place. Therefore, discussion of this issue is not appropriate," he said.

Commenting on Armenia's relations with the European Union, Pashinyan said that the official source of information on the matter is not the intelligence services of third countries, but Armenia's partners in the European Union themselves.
