Extreme heat in Spain has killed 5,232 people this summer.
Axar.az reports, citing Spanish media, that 2,147 people died due to high temperatures in August alone.
The current figures have already exceeded the previous annual highs. In 2022, 4,789 deaths were recorded, while in 2023 there were 3,035. The vast majority of those who died from the effects of heat this summer were over the age of 65. There were 5,048 deaths in this age group. People over 85 remain the most vulnerable group.
