A solution will be found on the railways issue, and it will be such that both Armenia benefits and Russian friends are not offended, Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan stated in an interview with the state-funded Public Television of Armenia.
Axar.az informs, citing Armenian media, Mirzoyan said that the railway network of Armenia needs serious modernization.
"We have discussed this issue, and it seems that the Russian partners are not going to make the necessary investments. How should one act in the current situation, taking into account that we will not miss this opportunity [i.e. unblocking regional communications]? The network must work and be integrated into a large project.
This issue is currently among the top-three main topics of world politics. The whole world is looking for new logistical communications, and Armenia has the opportunity to become one of such directions, and everyone is inclined to agree with this. We propose our Russian partners to sell the concession management rights [of Armenia’s railways] so that they also do not suffer losses.
Russia can sell it to any third country that will be acceptable to both Armenia and Russia. For example, it could be Kazakhstan or another country. This is the best solution and a friendly action,” Mirzoyan noted.
Also, the Armenian foreign minister considered it natural that the Russian partners’ first reaction to this proposal was cold.
