US President Donald Trump clashed with CNN and ABC News journalists after being questioned about the release of American citizen Stephen Hubbard, who had been imprisoned in Russia.

Axar.az reports that the exchanges took place as Trump was leaving the White House for a rally in South Carolina. Repоrters asked whether the United States had made concessions to Russia in exchange for Hubbard’s release.

CNN correspondent Kaitlan Collins asked Trump about the claim that Putin asked for nothing in exchange for Hubbard’s release. Trump said: “If I didn’t do that, you wouldn’t have Mr. Hubbard coming back."

“So you did give something?” Collins asked.

It was then that the president lashed out. “You don’t know anything. You’re fake news CNN,” he said. In another moment, he told Collins: “You don’t know what you’re talking about. You’re a low IQ person. You’re a dummy.”

In a separate exchange, ABC News White House Correspondent Karen Travers questioned Trump about his decision to waive sanctions on Russia to secure Hubbard’s release, asking how this did not amount to giving Moscow something in return.

“How is waiving those sanctions on Russia to secure the release of Hubbard not giving something to Russia in exchange?” an ABC reporter asked.

Trump replied, “Are you a stupid person? Who do you work for?”

When he was told ABC News, the president replied, “You’re a stupid person. And by the way, your network is the worst of all.”
