Pashinyan says Armenia no longer interested in CSTO

Armenia is no longer interested in the Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO), Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has said.

According to Axar.az, citing Russian media, Pashinyan said that Armenia’s interest in the CSTO had been exhausted and that the country no longer had any interest in the organization.

Earlier, former CSTO Secretary General Nikolay Bordyuzha called for Armenia to be expelled from the organization. He noted that Yerevan is currently not participating in the CSTO's activities. However, Armenia remains a full member, meaning that all decisions made by the organization must still be coordinated with it.

The CSTO is a regional international organization established by several former Soviet republics to ensure collective security. Its main objectives include strengthening peace, international and regional security and stability, as well as protecting the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of its member states.

The organization currently has six members: Armenia, Belarus, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia and Tajikistan.

Pashinyan previously said that Armenia would not oppose being expelled from the CSTO.
