Two tankers and tugboat caught fire in Strait of Hormuz

Iran's Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) said on Thursday that two oil tankers and a tugboat have caught fire after passing through the Strait of Hormuz.

Axar.az reports that since the Iran war began on February 28, Tehran has sharply curtailed traffic through the strategic waterway, which normally handles around one-fifth of global oil consumption.

“Last night, in two separate incidents, a large tanker that was trying to pass through the illegal passage south of the Strait, was hit by a mine and caught fire and stopped, while another supertanker, leaving this route in the east of the Strait of Hormuz, stopped in a massive fire, and a tugboat that had approached this supertanker to put out the fire also caught fire,” the IRGC Public Relations Office said in a statement.
