Trump extends US national emergency over Iran

US President Donald Trump has extended the national emergency concerning Iran for another year, according to a White House notice released on Wednesday.

Axar.az reports, citing the US media, that the implementation of the agreements signed between the two countries on 1981, is still ongoing.

"Our relations with Iran have not yet normalized, and the process of implementing the agreements with Iran, dated January 19, 1981, is ongoing," the notice stated.

Trump said the emergency and related measures introduced in 1979 must remain in effect beyond November 14, 2026.

The national emergency was first declared by US President Jimmy Carter on November 14, 1979, following the Iranian Revolution and the seizure of the US Embassy in Tehran. The White House noted that this measure is separate from another Iran-related national emergency declared in March 1995.

Under the measures, Iran’s official assets were frozen, and export and import restrictions were introduced.
