Herzog condemns racist rhetoric against Arab community

Israeli President Isaac Herzog has condemned "coarse" and “racist" rhetoric directed at the country's Arab community following the October 27 parliamentary election.

Axar.az reports, citing Times of Israel, that Herzog made the remarks on Wednesday at the President's Residence in Jerusalem, where he formally received and adopted the results of the elections to the 26th Knesset from Central Elections Committee chairman Justice Noam Sohlberg.

“I condemn the coarseness and racist expressions that we have heard recently. There is no place for them toward any community in Israel,” Herzog said.

He also expressed confidence in the Shin Bet, Israel Police and other law enforcement agencies investigating allegations of electoral fraud in the Arab sector.

“I have full confidence in the work of the Shin Bet, the Israel Police, and the law enforcement authorities. Any suspicion of subversive foreign interference in the election results must be fully investigated by the Shin Bet and the Police,” he said.

Herzog also cautioned political parties against treating every campaign commitment as binding if doing so would lead to another election.
