The United States calls on Azerbaijan and Armenia to take urgent steps to de-escalate the border situation.

Axar.az reports that the statement came from US State Department spokesman Ned Price.

"The United States condemns the recent escalation along the Armenian-Azerbaijani border. We call on Armenia and Azerbaijan to fulfil their ceasefire commitments," he said.

According to him, the tension on the border shows that only a comprehensive solution to all issues can normalize relations between the two countries and allow the people of the region to live together.

The US State Department also called on Baku and Yerevan to return to talks as soon as possible under the auspices of the OSCE Minsk Group co-chairs.
