The President of the Italian Republic Sergio Mattarella met with the President of the Roman Catholic Church Pope Francis in the Vatican.

Axar.az reports that the meeting was a farewell visit of Sergio Mattarella in connection with the expiration of his presidency.

The first meeting between Mattarella and Pope Francis was held on April 18, 2015 in the Vatican. During his seven-year presidency, Pope Francis had numerous meetings with the Italian president, including a visit to the Italian President's Quirinale Palace in May 2017.
