A plane belonging to the Malawi Defense Force disappeared from radar after leaving the capital Lilongwe.

The statement said that the plane failed to make the scheduled landing at Mzuzu International Airport. Attempts by aviation authorities to contact the plane after it disappeared from radar have so far been unsuccessful.

Malawi President Lazarus Chakwera canceled a planned flight to the Bahamas and ordered all regional and national agencies to launch an urgent search and rescue operation to locate the plane.
