Iran announces closure of Strait of Hormuz

Iran has announced the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, stating that the United States failed to implement the first clause of a memorandum of understanding on ending the war, as well as Israel’s continued violations of the ceasefire in southern Lebanon, and its refusal to withdraw from Lebanese territory.

Axar.az reports that the IRGC’s Khatam al-Anbiya Central Headquarters made an announcement.

“The Strait of Hormuz will be closed to vessel traffic,” the statement said, adding that the move was “the first step in response to the enemy’s breach of commitments.”

The statement warned that if the situation continues, further steps will be planned and taken to compel the opposing side to fulfill its obligations.

A military source from the IRGC Navy was also quoted as saying that the Strait of Hormuz had been “completely closed” moments earlier.
