All 32 countries of NATO agreed with the candidacy of the Prime Minister of the Netherlands, Mark Rutte, for the position of Secretary General of the alliance.

Axar.az reports that the according to information, the official confirmation of the new secretary general will be at the summit of the alliance to be held in Washington in July. Rutte will replace the Norwegian Jens Stoltenberg in this position from October 2, 2024.

The NATO Secretary General is appointed based on the consensus of the member countries. The term of office of the Secretary General is 5 years.

It should be noted that the Dutch media also wrote that Rutte will be elected, and that his only rival, Romanian President Iohannis, will withdraw his candidacy.
