Since the end of 2022, Russian forces have been trying to capture Vuhledar, a city with a population of 14,000 before the war. Now, the Russian army's 57th Separate Motorized Brigade has breached the defenses of the Ukrainian forces' 72nd Mechanized Brigade.

Axar.az informs that this was reported by Forbes.

The publication states that Russian forces are currently positioned to the south of Vuhledar, while the exhausted Ukrainian garrison is retreating northward.

"Even if the Russians capture this city, the victory will come at a high cost. They have already lost nearly a thousand pieces of equipment and several thousand servicemen. The Ukrainian army's strong defense, aided by mines, artillery, drones, and anti-tank missiles, has destroyed all enemy brigades. The most challenging period was from late 2022 to early 2023. During that time, the Pacific Fleet's 40th and 155th Naval Brigades led operations around Vuhledar.Their unsuccessful assaults were among the bloodiest in the war. The 155th Brigade, which had nearly 3,000 soldiers on paper, lost up to 300 personnel a day over several days and was nearly completely destroyed by February 2023. After being reformed, it was destroyed again. The losses of both brigades accounted for about 6 percent of Russia's total casualties throughout the war."
