Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan is legitimizing Baku's demands for constitutional changes from the UN platform.
Axar.az reports that these remarks were made by political analyst Suren Surenyants in a statement to Armenian media.
“From the UN platform, Pashinyan essentially took a half-step back by stating that Armenia is ready to discuss changes to its Constitution after the signing of the peace agreement,” he said.
According to the political analyst, all of Nikol Pashinyan’s policies before, during, and after the 44-day war have been built on dangerous illusions:
“He has never understood that desires and hopes play no role in international relations.”
Surenyants also noted that a significant part of Pashinyan's speech was dedicated to an issue already rejected by Azerbaijan, which concerns the separate signing of already agreed-upon clauses in the peace treaty:
“He seems to think that if he tells the international community that we agree but Azerbaijan doesn’t, some pressure might be applied to Baku. This is an illusion. Moreover, Pashinyan has declared on behalf of Azerbaijan that it recognizes Armenia’s territorial integrity. However, neither Ilham Aliyev nor other officials have officially stated this by specifying geographic borders.”
Surenyants added that if we analyze the prime minister's speech, we cannot rule out that Armenia is ready to drop its territorial claims against Azerbaijan.
It should be noted that Pashinyan, during the UN General Assembly session in New York, stated that he does not rule out changes to Armenia’s Constitution after the signing of the peace agreement with Azerbaijan.
