Vida Mehrannia, the wife of South Azerbaijani professor Ahmadrza Jalali, who is a citizen of Sweden and lives under the death sentence in Tehran's Evin prison, issued a statement.

Axar.az reports that he shared about it on his social media account.

Mehrannia said that her husband has been on hunger strike since June 26 and his condition is getting worse.

It should be noted that the Azerbaijani scientist was arrested in April 2016 after visiting Iran to attend a scientific conference at the invitation of Tehran and Shiraz universities. In September 2017, the Tehran Revolutionary Court sentenced him to death on the charge of "spying for Israel," and the decision was later upheld by Iran's Supreme Court.

On June 15, Ahmadrza Jalali started a hunger strike to protest against his name not being included in the prisoner exchange between Iran and Sweden.
