Russia boosts security at Syrian bases

Necessary security measures have been taken against the background of threats at Russia's Khmeimim and Tartus bases in Syria.

Axar.az reports that this was said by Russian political scientist Igor Korotchenko.

"Regarding the activation of the opposition, unfortunately, this threat of terrorism is always close. We assume that proper security measures have been taken from the beginning. First of all, the escalation is clearly related to the attempts of the United States to create an additional point of tension to put pressure on Russia and its interests in the region. We are seeing synchronized efforts by the outgoing administration of US President Biden to escalate the conflict in Ukraine, while also creating tension points for Russian interests elsewhere in the world. The intensification of the actions of the Syrian armed opposition is also related to the ability of the US intelligence services to coordinate and activate it at the right time. Under these conditions, the main burden of the fight against illegal armed groups should be borne by President Assad's Syrian government army. As for our capabilities, if necessary, of course, using our potential at the Khmeimim air base and the aviation group of the Russian Aerospace Forces there, we can provide appropriate support by launching high-precision air strikes," he said.
