National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir has instructed the Israeli police to ban the broadcasting of the call to prayer in mosques through loudspeakers.
Axar.az reports that the new policy will reportedly allow police to enter mosques and confiscate loudspeaker equipment. Mosques where the Azan is read out loud will also be fined.
The ultranationalist minister said he was "proud" to introduce this policy and stressed that it would put an end to "unreasonable noise from mosques that has become a danger to Israeli residents."
Israel's opposition politicians said that this decision would create ethnic-national discrimination, and that Ben Gvir "built a base on hatred and persecution of Arabs".
