The UN General Assembly on Tuesday called on Israel to withdraw from the occupied Palestinian territories and advocated for the creation of a Palestinian state.

Axar.az reports that citing AFP, it announced plans for an international conference in June 2025 to reinvigorate efforts toward a two-state solution.

In a resolution passed by a 157-8 vote, with the United States and Israel among those opposing, and seven abstentions, the Assembly expressed "unwavering support, in accordance with international law, for the two-state solution of Israel and Palestine."

The resolution stipulated that the two states should exist "living side by side in peace and security within recognized borders, based on the pre-1967 borders."

To advance this goal, the Assembly called for a high-level international meeting in New York in June 2025, to be co-chaired by France and Saudi Arabia, aimed at reviving diplomatic efforts to realize a two-state solution.

The United Nations continues to regard the West Bank, East Jerusalem, and the Gaza Strip as unlawfully occupied by Israel. While Israel withdrew from the Gaza Strip in 2005, it is still considered the occupying power.
