U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio stated that President Donald Trump’s proposal to resettle Gaza’s population would be temporary, contradicting Trump’s earlier claim that displacement would be permanent.
Axar.az reports that Trump suggested the U.S. could "take over" Gaza and redevelop it into "the Riviera of the Middle East," sparking criticism from the UN, human rights groups, and Arab leaders.
White House spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt clarified that the U.S. was not planning to deploy troops but did not rule it out.
Rubio, speaking in Guatemala, called the plan a "generous move," saying Gazans would leave an “interim” period while debris was cleared and reconstruction occurred.
Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz supported Trump’s idea, saying Gazans "should be allowed to enjoy the freedom of exit and immigration" and suggesting that critics of Israel’s actions, such as Spain, Ireland, and Norway, were legally obligated to accept Gazans refugees. Spain has rejected the idea, and details on implementation remain unclear.
