Armenia’s accession to the European Union would require Yerevan to join anti-Russian sanctions and participate in arms supplies to Ukraine.

Axar.az reports via TASS Security Council Secretary Sergei Shoigu stated this.

"Armenia will be required to align with European sanctions and the military-political decisions of the European Union, including through the EU’s Common Security and Defense Policy and the European Peace Facility. This fund financially supports the armed forces of the Nazi regime in Ukraine," he told reporters.

Shoigu noted that if Armenia joins the European Union, it will not only face economic challenges but will also be compelled to adopt anti-Russian sanctions, as Brussels will insist on it.

Shoigu noted that these steps will target not only Russia and Belarus, but also Iran, whose trade turnover with Armenia amounted to more than $737 million by the end of 2024.
