The Pentagon’s inspector general has launched an investigation into Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth’s use of the encrypted messaging app Signal to discuss sensitive military operations in Yemen.

Axar.az reports that the probe follows a bipartisan Senate request after allegations surfaced that classified details—including strike timings and aircraft models—were shared in a Signal group chat that included a journalist.

The messages, published by The Atlantic, contained operational details that experts believe should have been classified.

Hegseth and the White House insist the messages were not classified, but the Pentagon’s own guidelines suggest otherwise. The investigation will assess compliance with security and records retention policies, with inquiries taking place in Washington and at U.S. Central Command headquarters in Florida.
