The U.S. Supreme Court ruled 5-4 in favor of allowing former President Donald Trump to proceed with deportations of alleged Venezuelan gang members under the rarely used 1798 Alien Enemies Act, with judicial review requirements in place.

Axar.az reports that the ruling lifted a temporary block issued by Judge James Boasberg but emphasized that deportees must be informed in time to challenge their removal through habeas corpus in the proper court.

The court did not decide on the legality of using the 1798 law during peacetime, a key argument from the detainees represented by the ACLU.

Justice Sonia Sotomayor, joined by the liberal justices, dissented, warning that rushed deportations without due process could have "life or death consequences." Trump's invocation of the law is part of a broader hardline immigration strategy, and the decision is the latest in a series of Supreme Court rulings favoring Trump.
