U.S. President Donald Trump's special envoy, Steve Witkoff, stated that Iran must stop and eliminate its nuclear enrichment and weaponization program as a condition for any future agreement.
Axar.az reports that he emphasized that only a "Trump deal" would be acceptable, aiming to ensure long-term peace and stability in the Middle East.
Witkoff's statement comes ahead of a new round of U.S.-Iran nuclear negotiations set for Saturday in Oman. While both sides were positive after the initial talks, Trump criticized the delay before the next meeting and accused Iran of stalling.
Trump insisted that Iran cannot acquire a nuclear weapon, saying he wants a fast resolution and is prepared to take harsh measures, including military action or sanctions, if necessary. He also reiterated his belief that the issue is "almost easy" to resolve.
This marks the first direct engagement between Washington and Tehran since Trump withdrew from the 2015 nuclear deal (JCPOA) in 2018 and reimposed sanctions.
Iran initially adhered to the deal post-withdrawal but later scaled back its commitments, blaming the remaining signatories for not safeguarding its interests.
