Over the past six weeks, Hungary has blocked the provision of €10 million in military aid to Armenia from the EU’s European Peace Facility.
Axar.az informs this was reported by Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty, citing sources.
The fund, established in 2021, is used by the EU to send military aid outside the bloc. Since its inception, the majority of its resources have been directed to Ukraine. However, in 2024, an additional €10 million was approved for Armenia—but the disbursement was blocked by Hungary.
Eventually, Budapest lifted its objections on the condition that an equivalent amount of funding would be allocated to Baku to support demining operations in the country, according to the report.
Further discussions took place on Monday in an effort to persuade Hungary to unblock the aid, but according to RFE/RL’s sources, no progress was made.
The aid, proposed by EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas, is aimed at strengthening Armenia’s “non-lethal defense” through the European Peace Facility.
