Russian President Vladimir Putin's proposal for direct peace talks with Ukraine is "a first step, but not enough".

Axar.az reports this was stated by French President Emmanuel Macron.

"An unconditional ceasefire is not preceded by negotiations, by definition," Macron said.

It should be noted that Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed resuming direct negotiations with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15 without any preconditions. He also said he would discuss this with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan.
