The goal of the proposed negotiations with Ukraine is to eliminate the root causes of the conflict and to protect the national interests of the Russian Federation.

Axar.az reports this was stated by the press secretary of the Russian President, Dmitry Peskov.

"The objectives of the talks are clear — to address the root causes of the conflict and to ensure the interests of the Russian Federation," Peskov said.

It should be noted that Russian leader Vladimir Putin has proposed direct talks with Ukraine in Istanbul on May 15.
