The European Union has strongly condemned the law "on foreign agents" adopted in Georgia, calling it a serious blow to democracy.

Axar.az reports that this was emphasized in the EU statement.

The EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Kaja Kallas, and European Commissioner Marta Cos stated that this law, together with the restrictive laws adopted recently, is an indicator of democratic regression in the country.

They called on the Georgian authorities to respect democratic values and release unjustly detained journalists and activists.

The EU noted that the membership process has been effectively suspended, and the responsibility lies entirely with the Georgian government.
