Former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock has been elected as the new President of the United Nations (UN) General Assembly.

Axar.az informs that the Der Spiegel newspaper reported on this.

According to the information, 167 out of 193 member states voted in her favor in the vote held at the UN headquarters on June 2.

In a statement after the elections, the former German Foreign Minister expressed gratitude for the trust shown and emphasized that she wants to be an honest mediator in the UN General Assembly.

A. Baerbock will officially begin her duties on September 9.
