The FSB of Russia has reported that railway tracks in Voronezh Region were damaged by an explosion, providing grounds to open a criminal case under the article on terrorism.

Axar.az reports, citing Interfax, “This morning, an explosive device detonated just before a train was due to pass, damaging the railway track in Voronezh Region,” the FSB’s Public Relations Center (PRC) announced.

Based on initial signs, there are sufficient grounds to open a criminal case under the terrorism article, the FSB added.

“Thanks to the professional actions of the train driver and crew, who noticed the track damage and performed emergency braking, the train itself was not harmed, and casualties were avoided,” the PRC noted.

The FSB added that all circumstances surrounding the incident are being investigated, and the scene is being examined.

Earlier, regional governor Alexander Gusev reported that several trains had been halted in the southern part of Voronezh Region due to track damage.
