Iran’s Supreme Leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, reportedly went into hiding in a bunker and cut off all communications just as the U.S. was attempting to initiate high-level diplomatic talks through Turkiye to resolve the Iran-Israel conflict and negotiate a nuclear deal.
Axar.az reports that Fox News has disclosed details regarding the incident.
President Trump, working with Turkish President Erdogan, had offered to send Vice President JD Vance and envoy Steve Witkoff to meet Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian, and even offered to attend personally.
Despite initial signals from Iran showing interest, the talks collapsed after Khamenei refused to approve the meeting and became unreachable.
Following this breakdown, Trump launched precision airstrikes on Iran’s Fordow, Natanz, and Isfahan nuclear facilities. He later stated that while they knew Khamenei’s location, he chose not to target him, for now. Khamenei has since remained silent publicly and inactive on social media.
Analysts like Lisa Daftari argue that Iran’s regime was never genuinely committed to diplomacy, and Trump’s limited military action was the only viable path to stop Iran’s nuclear ambitions.
