US President Donald Trump said he made no progress on ending the war in Ukraine during a recent phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Axar.az, citing Axios, reports that the conversation, which lasted over an hour and also covered Iran, came just two days after the U.S. paused weapons shipments to Ukraine, though Trump denied a full pause, saying the U.S. must ensure it has enough weapons for its own needs.
Putin’s adviser, Yuri Ushakov, claimed the issue of U.S. arms to Ukraine was not discussed, but confirmed that Trump expressed a desire to end the war quickly.
However, Putin reiterated that Russia would not abandon its goals in Ukraine and considers peace talks with Kyiv to be strictly a bilateral matter, excluding U.S. involvement.
Trump admitted he was unhappy about the situation in Ukraine but acknowledged he made no progress during the call. Meanwhile, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky is expected to speak with Trump on Friday regarding the weapons shipment pause.
