International actors have reached an agreement on the opening of the Zangezur corridor between Azerbaijan and Armenia.

Axar.az reports that this was stated by Armenian political scientist Grigor Balasanyan.

The expert said that the opening of the corridor was agreed outside the framework of the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement:

“Recent events show that the issue of opening the roads has nothing to do with the Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement. Initially, the issue of opening the roads was considered in a completely different context. However, Azerbaijan later began to put forward new conditions outside the trilateral statement of November 10. These demands include the return of 300,000 Azerbaijanis, Armenia paying $150 billion in compensation, as well as the implementation of amendments and additions to the constitution. Baku skillfully changed the negotiation process. Now it seems that international players have reached an agreement on the corridor outside the process of normalizing Armenian-Azerbaijani relations.”

Balasanyan stressed that Armenia will not have control over the Zangezur corridor: “As a result of the consistent demands of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, this issue has become a central element of the negotiation process.”

The expert added that Yerevan has also accepted this demand from Baku, which it has repeatedly declared “unacceptable” before.
