Repression by the Russian authorities is manifested in both foreign and domestic policy, including in relation to ethnic minorities.
Axar.az reports that this was stated by Anita Hipper, the official representative of the European Union (EU).
Responding to a question about the Yekaterinburg events and subsequent raids in other cities, which resulted in the brutal killing and injury of Azerbaijanis, A. Hipper noted that the EU Ambassador to Azerbaijan Peter Mikhalko had previously expressed concern about reports of violence, torture and inhuman treatment of ethnic Azerbaijanis by Russian law enforcement agencies.
According to him, this fully coincides with the official position of the EU.
It should be noted that on the morning of June 27, the Russian Federal Security Service raided the homes of Azerbaijanis in Yekaterinburg. Two people were killed and several others were injured during the raid. The killed Azerbaijanis are the brothers of the well-known journalist Seyfeddin Huseynli. They were buried in Agjabedi on July 1.
The Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry issued a statement on June 28 demanding an investigation and bringing to justice those responsible for this unacceptable act of violence. The Russian chargé d'affaires was later summoned to the Foreign Ministry and a strong protest was lodged with him regarding the incident.
