Death toll rises 235 in Sinai Mosque explosion

Death toll as a result of a militant attack that hit a mosque in Egypt rose to 235, according to Egyptian State Television.

Hundreds of people are reported to have been injured.

The attack struck the mosque during Friday prayers. Egypt has been fighting jihadist militants in the northern Sinai Peninsula since they pledged allegiance to Daesh in 2014.

Axar.az informs that an explosion has occurred at Al Rawdah mosque, west of El Arish city in the north of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, killing at least 155 and injuring 120 others, state television reported Friday.

Axar.az reports citing Sputnik that, Egypt has been fighting a jihadist insurgency in northern Sinai Peninsula, with local militants pledging allegiance to Daesh in 2014, and since then claiming responsibility for a number of deadly attacks in the region.

An explosion has occurred at a mosque in the north of Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, killing at least 50, according to Sky News Arabia.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack yet, however, Egypt has been fighting a jihadist insurgency in the northern Sinai Peninsula since the army overthrew then-President Mohamed Morsi in 2013. The militants on the Sinai pledged allegiance to the Daesh terrorist group in 2014, and have claimed responsibility for a number of deadly attacks in the region since then.
