Russian forces shoot down own Mi-8 helicopter

Russian forces shot down one of their own Mi-8 military helicopters over the Voronezh region on Oct. 1, killing all three crew members after a ground-based air defense unit mistook it for an enemy drone.

Axar.az reports, citing Russian media, that the helicopter crashed in a field in the Anninsky District, about 80 km (50 miles) from the city of Voronezh and roughly 200 km (125 miles) from the Ukrainian border.

All three crew members — a pilot, navigator and gunner — were killed.
