Indonesia issues tsunami warning after strong quake

Indonesia on Thursday issued a tsunami warning after a powerful earthquake of magnitude 7.1 shook the country’s North Maluku province.

Axar.az reports citing Turkish media.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), the earthquake that occurred at 11.17 p.m. local time (1617GMT) has the potential to cause a tsunami.

The epicenter of the earthquake was 134 kilometers (83 miles) northwest of Jailolo town, North Maluku, at a depth of 10 kilometers (6 miles).

There was no immediate report of casualties.
