Protests started on Friday in protest against rising gasoline prices in Iran.

Axar.az informs that, the protests have already been held in large cities of South Azerbaijan, such as Urmia, Tabriz, Ardabil, Kazvin and Zanjan.

Thousands of people took to the streets in Tabriz in connection with rising gasoline prices.

Saturday's protests continued until late at night, and in some cities, police used force against peaceful demonstrators. Dozens of protesters were detained during the protests.

In Shahriyar, protesters set fire to a famous statue of a religious leader Khomeini.

9 people were killed when police opened fire on protesters. Protesters burned state and religious buildings and attacked jars.

Earlier, gasoline prices in Iran increased three times. Previously, the price of gasoline, which was 1000 rials, was raised to 3000 rials.
