Lavrov skips meeting with Azerbaijani Ambassador

There are reasons why Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov did not receive the Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia, Rahman Mustafayev.

Axar.az reports that Elkhan Shahinoglu, head of the Atlas Research Center, said this in a statement to Yeni Musavat while commenting on Lavrov's refusal to receive our ambassador.

According to him, the minister is not meeting with the ambassador because closed discussions are taking place:

"Detailed negotiations are currently ongoing. Galuzin is discussing these details with the ambassador. For example, he asked for the release of 11 Russians. Lavrov cannot raise this issue at a meeting with the ambassador. Because if we do not comply with his request, it will increase tensions in relations and Lavrov's words will fall flat."

It should be noted that Lavrov received the Azerbaijani ambassador in October last year. There has been no communication since then.

The other day, at the initiative of the Azerbaijani side, Azerbaijani Ambassador to Russia Rahman Mustafayev met with Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Mikhail Galuzin.
