The U.S. under Donald Trump is pushing NATO to cut back many of its foreign engagements, including ending the advisory mission in Iraq, scaling down the peacekeeping force in Kosovo, and limiting partner countries’ participation in the July summit.

The effort, called a “return to factory settings,” aims to refocus NATO on core defense and deterrence missions, rolling back decades of global crisis management and partnerships.
