Iran has pledged to investigate a rocket and drone incident that occurred in the direction of Nakhchivan.
Axar.az reports that Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov made the remarks while speaking to journalists during a visit to the Fakhri Khiyaban memorial complex on the occasion of the 103rd anniversary of National Leader Heydar Aliyev’s birth.
The minister said Azerbaijan reacted immediately after the incident, adding that multiple contacts were held with Iranian officials at both political and military levels.
According to Bayramov, Iran’s president also contacted the Azerbaijani president, while several phone conversations were held between the two countries’ foreign ministers. He noted that the Iranian side denies launching the drones and claims that a third-party provocation may have been involved.
The incident took place on March 5, when drones allegedly launched from Iranian territory struck Nakhchivan. One drone hit the terminal building of Nakhchivan International Airport, while another landed near a school in Shakarabad village of Babek district. Four civilians were injured in the airport strike.
Following the incident, Iran’s ambassador to Azerbaijan was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and Baku stated that it reserves the right to take appropriate response measures.
