On July 6, Azerbaijan's Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov met with Dmitry Shlapachenko, the newly appointed United Nations Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports according to Azerbaijan's Foreign Ministry, the meeting focused on the current agenda of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, prospects for expanding the partnership, as well as regional and international security issues.

Bayramov noted that the long-standing and productive cooperation between Azerbaijan and the UN has continued to develop successfully across various areas. He also highlighted that next year will mark the 35th anniversary of the establishment of cooperation between Azerbaijan and the United Nations, describing the milestone as an important opportunity to further strengthen the partnership.

The two sides emphasized Azerbaijan's active role in addressing global challenges and noted that the country has successfully hosted a number of major international events in recent years. They said the successful organization of COP29 and the World Urban Forum demonstrated Azerbaijan's commitment to multilateral cooperation. In this context, they noted that the signing of the 2026-2030 UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework marked a new stage in cooperation with the UN system. It was also noted that Azerbaijan will continue to host international events of global significance in the future.

The meeting also covered Azerbaijan's role as a reliable bridge between Europe and Asia, projects aimed at expanding transport and communication links, the growing importance of the Middle Corridor, and the development of cooperation with Central Asian countries, including new opportunities created under the C6 cooperation format.

Addressing regional security, Bayramov spoke about the new realities that have emerged in the post-conflict period, the large-scale reconstruction and restoration efforts in the liberated territories, and measures to ensure the safe and dignified return of former internally displaced persons to their homes.

Discussing the Azerbaijan-Armenia normalization process, the foreign minister stressed the importance of making use of the existing opportunities to achieve lasting peace.

For his part, Dmitry Shlapachenko said he was pleased to begin his work in Azerbaijan and reaffirmed the United Nations' interest in further strengthening cooperation with the country across all areas, including the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals.

The two sides also exchanged views on other bilateral and regional issues of mutual interest.
