Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov will visit Baku on November 19 for talks on the settlement of the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Axar.az informs that sources told 168 Zham newspaper.
On November 20, Lavrov will pay a visit to Yerevan, according to 168 Zham’s sources.
According to information, two assumptions are circulating on Lavrov’s agenda.
“According to the first one, Lavrov will try to develop an effective agenda for the expected meeting between Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov and Armenian Foreign Minister Edward Nalbandian. According to the second one, Lavrov will propose a plan that has the support of the other [OSCE Minsk Group] co-chair countries [US and France],” wrote 168 Zham.
The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict entered its modern phase when the Armenian SRR made territorial claims against the Azerbaijani SSR in 1988.
A fierce war broke out between Azerbaijan and Armenia over the Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan. As a result of the war, Armenian armed forces occupied some 20 percent of Azerbaijani territory which includes Nagorno-Karabakh and seven adjacent districts (Lachin, Kalbajar, Aghdam, Fuzuli, Jabrayil, Gubadli and Zangilan), and over a million Azerbaijanis became refugees and internally displaced people.
The military operations finally came to an end when Azerbaijan and Armenia signed a ceasefire agreement in Bishkek in 1994.
