On August 31, former political prisoner Abbas Lisani, who was arrested by security officials at his private residence in Ardabil, was forcibly taken to Yazd city to serve his 2-year exile sentence.
Axar.az reports that this information was shared by his family.
He was threatened with harsher punishments and an extension of his sentence if he refuses to comply with the exile.
Abbas Lisani has stated that he will not comply with the unfair and unlawful exile sentence imposed on him.
According to information provided by the activist's family, after being released from the security department, he headed to Yazd city's bus station to return to Ardabil.
It should be noted that Abbas Lisani was released from Ardabil prison on February 21, 2023, after serving 4 years and 2 months, under a decree on "general amnesty and sentence reductions."
Lawyer Seyed Mohammadreza Faqihi has stated that if Lisani was released under general amnesty, the forced exile sentence in Yazd should have been included in that amnesty. Therefore, there is no legal basis for moving the national activist to Yazd city and increasing his sentence after his release.
