A porn star who refused to take part in filming with a man because he had previously shot gay porn has been found dead after an apparent suicide.

Axar.az reports citing Metro news that, August Ames, 23, is believed to have taken her own life after facing a backlash over her warning to other porn stars. According to the Ventura County Medical Examiner she had hanged herself and was found in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

She wrote: ‘Whichever (lady) performer is replacing me tomorrow for @EroticaXNews, you’re shooting with a guy who has shot gay porn, just to let cha know. BS is all I can say… Do agents really not care about who they’re representing? #ladirect I do my homework for my body’

After facing criticism for her comments she later added: ‘NOT homophobic. Most girls don’t shoot with guys who have shot gay porn, for safety. ‘Thats just how it is with me. I’m not putting my body at risk, i don’t know what they do in their private lives.’

Her final tweet was posted at midnight on December 5 in which she wrote ‘fuck y’all’.

Close friends had said that she was prone to depression, according to The Blast, but the online abuse she received may have triggered her suicide.

Some male adult film stars take part ‘crossing over’ – shooting in both straight and gay porn for extra cash.

Ames, who had appeared in more than 270 films, said that medical testing was different for gay porn to straight porn, which is why she didn’t want to take part.

Many women are said to be reluctant to take part in scenes involving men who cross over because they believe it exposes them to a higher risk of contracting HIV.

Kevin Moore told Adult Video News: ‘She was the kindest person I ever knew and she meant the world to me. Please leave this as a private family matter in this difficult time.’

Ames, who appeared in movies such as Beauty and the Beast XXX: An Erotic Fairy Tale Parody’ and ‘Baby Got Boobs’, began performing in 2013 and won awards from AVN.

She was born Mercedes Grabowski in Novo Scotia, Canada, and moved into porn after a short stint working as a barmaid.
