Jennifer Aniston and Justin Theroux have split after two years of marriage and seven years of being together.

The couple announced they have called time on their relationship in a statement to Associated Press. Jennifer, 49, and Justin, 46, say their decision to split was ‘mutual’ and ‘lovingly made at the end of last year’. They added that they had decided to go public with the news ‘to reduce any further speculation’. The statement, released by Aniston’s publicist Stephen Huvane, said: ‘Normally we would do this privately, but given that the gossip industry cannot resist an opportunity to speculate and invent, we wanted to convey the truth directly. ‘Whatever else is printed about us that is not directly from us, is someone else’s fictional narrative. Above all, we are determined to maintain the deep respect and love that we have for one another.’

Jennifer and Justin described themselves as ‘two best friends who have decided to part ways as a couple, but look forward to continuing our cherished friendship’. The couple wed in 2015 at their Bel Air home. The ceremony was apparently so low-key that their guests didn’t know they were attending a wedding. Jen and Justin told friends that they were celebrating Justin’s upcoming birthday, but TMZ reported at the time that ‘the couple made the big reveal once all guests arrived…and Jen apologised for tricking everyone’. Their break up comes a week after Jen gave a sneak peek into the couple’s mansion and their domestic bliss. She told Architectural Digest: ‘I look around at my husband and my dogs and our home, and there’s nowhere else I want to be.’

Actor and director Justin opened up about their relationship in an interview last year, saying: ‘It’s good to have someone have your back. ‘Marriage makes the small things much smaller and the big things small.’ Actress Jennifer was married to Brad Pitt from 2000 to 2005.
