The International Air Transport Association (IATA) and "Azeraeronavigation" Air Traffic Department (AZANS) of AZAL CJSC have started joint work on the development and implementation of the National Airspace Strategy (NAS) of Azerbaijan.

Axar.az reports that in this regard, AZANS, Azerbaijan's air navigation service provider, and IATA will work with all relevant aviation stakeholders, including state and other regulatory bodies. Thus, the initiative, which aims to provide a range of benefits to air passengers, will strengthen the already existing long-standing cooperation between the two organizations.

At the same time, joint activities will support the development of the national economy and competitiveness of the aviation sector of Azerbaijan. This cooperation will contribute to the achievement of the global goals of sustainable development of air transport. IATA forecasts that within the next two decades, demand for passenger transportation by air in Azerbaijan is expected to increase by 80%.

In accordance with this, the volume of air traffic will grow at the same pace. For example, already today, there is a high dynamic of growth of overflight traffic in the airspace of Azerbaijan. Meeting the growing demand for air transportation while ensuring flight safety, cost management, and reducing CO2 emissions and delays requires Azerbaijan to further modernize its airspace structure and air traffic control (ATC) system.
