Taliban protests Iran's border wall construction plans

Afghans should return to their country and work on its reconstruction. Iran does not have the capacity to accommodate so many refugees.

Axar.az reports that this statement was made by Iran's Minister of Interior, Iskander Momeni.

He stated that unemployment in the country is largely caused by Afghan refugees:

"Jobs created in our country are occupied by them. Therefore, we ask Afghans to return to their own country."

Iran's special representative for Afghan affairs, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, has made a similar statement, declaring their determination to improve the wall being built on the eastern border with Afghanistan:

"This is being done to ensure Iran's security and prevent border violations. Iran will strengthen the 74 km long, 4-meter high concrete wall in the northeastern part of Khorasan Razavi province with barbed wire in the area where border violations are more frequent."

It is reported that Iran also plans to build a similar wall on the border with Pakistan.

Iran's move has faced objections from the Taliban government, with Kabul stating that Tehran's border wall construction can only be realized with the agreement of both countries.
