Since the beginning of the year, Azerbaijan’s population has grown by 11,338 people — a 0.1% increase — reaching 10,236,227 as of May 1, 2025.
Axar.az reports that the figures were released by the State Statistics Committee.
According to the State Committee for Refugees and Internally Displaced Persons, under the “First State Program on the Great Return to the Liberated Territories,” 3,721 families — totaling 148,043 people — had returned to restored residential areas in the liberated regions by June 1.
The Ministry of Labor and Social Protection reported that, as of the same date, 32,216 individuals, including those temporarily living in the liberated territories for reconstruction or professional work, have been registered.
Including 1,150 students currently enrolled at Karabakh University in Khankendi, the total number of people resettled in the liberated areas stands at 48,209.
Of the country’s population, 54.4% live in urban areas and 45.6% in rural areas. Men make up 49.8%, while women account for 50.2%.
